Addiction / Recovery
Addiction is when someone becomes dependent on a substance or behavior, such as drugs, alcohol, or gambling, to the point where it negatively impacts their health, relationships, and daily life. It often involves a cycle of craving, using, and withdrawal, making it difficult to stop even when someone wants to. Recovery is the process of overcoming addiction, which can involve therapy, peer support, support groups, medication, and building healthier habits. Recovery is not a one-time event but a journey that requires ongoing effort, support, and personal commitment to change. It focuses on healing the mind, body, and relationships to regain a healthier, more stable life.
At-Risk Youth
If you or a loved one is an at-risk youth, it means you're facing challenges that could impact your future well-being, such as unstable housing, involvement in negative peer groups, family issues, or struggles with mental health. At-risk youth might be vulnerable to dropping out of school, substance abuse, or involvement in the justice system. They may lack strong support systems or opportunities for positive development. These challenges can make it harder to access resources, build a sense of stability, or envision a positive future. However, with the right support, like mentors, education, and community resources, at-risk youth can find pathways to resilience and success.
Unhoused Community
Struggling with homelessness often involves feelings of uncertainty, fear, and isolation. Homelessness often means being in survival mode, where basic needs take priority, and finding stability or a sense of security seems out of reach. It can also involve moving between temporary shelters or makeshift housing, and facing barriers to finding a permanent home or steady work.
Family and Friends Support
Family and friends of those struggling with addiction and other life obstacles often face emotional and mental challenges as well. They may feel helpless, frustrated, or worried, and it's important for them to seek support to cope with their own emotions. This support could include therapy, support groups like Al-Anon, or talking to others who understand what they're going through. By taking care of themselves, they can be better equipped to provide the encouragement and understanding needed to help their loved one.
